You have to secure your pool and you hesitate to install a safety barrier "Here are some elements to make your choice ...

The barrier is one of four safety devices for a pool, with alarms, shelters and covers. Since the decree of June 7, 2004, it is indeed mandatory, for a non-enclosed underground pool, to install such equipment, to prevent the risk of drowning and ensure safety around the pool. The security barrier must be able to prevent a child under five from accessing the pool.

What obligations for the pool gates?

A safety barrier must comply with standard NF P 90 306. Its minimum height must be 1.10 meters between the points of support. The safety gate must have a double-lock gate, which can not be opened by a child under five years old. It must be installed at least one meter from the edge of the pool.

Four precautions to take

1. Before buying, check that the barrier you have chosen is NF compliant and certified. Also ask for a certificate of conformity of the material.

2. Remember to check that the gate of the safety gate remains closed and locked permanently, even if the system is automatic.

3. Be careful that no nearby objects can climb the gate.

4. Regularly service the equipment: change any defective or damaged parts.

The advantages of swimming pool barriers

Effective protection: A safety barrier is a permanent physical protection against drowning. Once the gate is locked, there is no risk of a child approaching. You have no manipulation to perform, such as with a blanket for example.
The variety: wood, PVC, glass, aluminum ... There is a wide variety of materials for your safety barrier, which allow it to integrate better with the environment, and to match your tastes.
Rates for all: the cost of acquiring a security fence remains well below that of a shelter. Count 30 € / m for a removable model or mesh, 120 € / m for an aluminum barrier or wood, and 150 to 300 € / m for a transparent glass model.

The disadvantages of swimming pool barriers

Aestheticism: unlike a security blanket, a barrier is usually fixed. The aesthetics of the pool can seriously take a hit! Fortunately, manufacturers have made efforts. Today there are glazed models that make forget the disgraceful bars, or retractable barriers, which disappear in the floor. But, flip side, their cost is high.
Installation: Installing a security barrier requires more work than using a cover, for example. Because of the installation, which must be flawless, it is often entrusted to a professional, which generates additional costs.
The cost: compared to an alarm, a barrier is more expensive. Count 1,500 euros minimum against a few hundred euros only for an alarm or a blanket.
