How to change the plan of a house to create a room in the extension of a living room with open kitchen? Sophie Ferjani takes up the challenge ...

Séverine will move into a new house, with three children and soon a fourth, she needs an extra room for the future baby. SOS Sophie helps this mother at the head of a stepfamily family to find the new layout of her stay allowing her to create this piece and more.

The advice of Sophie Ferjani in brief

1. Modify the layout of the living room to create a bedroom more

First step: on the plan of the house, Sophie Ferjani strongly reduces the living room by drawing a partition that allows to create a new room with a large window. This room, contiguous to the future living room, may be a bit noisy for a child. She advises to make rather the parental room.

The living room becomes an L-shaped living room that extends from the front door to the open kitchen. The former relaxation area, facing the entrance, is transformed into a dining room. The location in the traffic corridor is not a problem because you spend less time there than in the living room. The decorator places the living space between the open kitchen, the dining area and the new bedroom. She proposes to install a corner sofa for the large Séverine family.

As for the kitchen, Sophie Ferjani advises to cut down completely the arch partition that separates it from the living room. This creates a real kitchen open to the living room with a greater sense of space. The kitchen is bounded by a bar / island.

2. Repaint old wallpaper to modernize the mood

Séverine opts for a mountain spirit mixing wood and beige tones. The decorator chooses to install a floor printed vinyl flooring light wood, cheaper than a real parquet. She matches it with two colors on the walls: white and linen. Above the doors, Sophie Ferjani draws a large white frieze up to the ceiling. She then proposes to repaint the wallpaper in linen color. Another tip: do not forget to paint the doors the same color as the walls to hide more easily in the decor.

3. Makeover the kitchen

To revamp the kitchen, Sophie Ferjani recommends repainting the furniture and walls in the same shades as the living room-dining room. Séverine can change door handles for more modern or even driftwood? The decorator also proposes to cover Séverine's old-fashioned credenza with a wood panel PVC paneling that will give a very mountain spirit to the user's kitchen.
